There will always be an England

Who thinks of such oddball items?  First, the Bookseller’s Magazine Diagram Prize for the weirdest book title.  The winner of the oddest book title of the past 30 years is Greek Rural Postmen and Their Cancellation Numbers.  OK…..how about the runners-up?  People Who Don’t Know They’re Dead and How to Avoid Huge Ships.  The 2008 winner was If You Want Closure in Your Relationship, Start with Your Legs.  There’s a country western tune in there somewhere.

I think the U.S. should have such a prize but I’ll bet we can’t top these books.

Then there was a post on the Guardian’s book blog about the most popular books left behind in Travelodge chain of motels.  Who would think of something like this?  Two of the top spots were taken by authors only known in Britain but Cherie Blair’s  (wife of former PM Tony) memoir had the second most copies left behind.  Ten copies of the Kama Sutra were left behind in one hotel!  Not sure if they were in one room or in many or on the same or different days.  What a television mini-series that would make.  A dozen copies of Stephen King’s The Cell were found!  Speaking of left behind, I wish Tim LeHaye would have been.

Did people pack in a hurry or did they think these books were lousy?
