New England Book Awards

Independent book sellers are an endangered species but some have managed to find niches and hang in there financially.  I must hope that people are finding their way back to these book stores just as people have found new appreciation for their public libraries.

The New England Independent Booksellers Association will be presenting awards in four categories on September 18 in Boston at their annual meeting.  Interestingly, individual book titles are not awarded prizes but rather an author is recognized for his or her lifetime work.

Maine scored one award in publishing.  Down East Books, Rockport, is the 2008 winner in that division.
